Two things:
1. I read an interesting article online from The Believer today, written by Tara Jepsen.
2. I can't really even see the word "believer" without thinking of Charles Burns. After reading the article, I was wondering if there was an archive of Believer portraits by Charles Burns... and BEHOLD, I found it. Whoa.
I love everything about this woman
ReplyDeleteYeah, I found this piece pretty inspiring--even outside the whole skateboarding context. She gets into the accidental/sudden friend phenomenon (something we experienced a lot on tour), and the first paragraph of the "Categorizing People" section really nailed the wild dichotomy of conversation between young and old.
ReplyDeleteI was by myself once at a skatepark, and I really wished I could've recorded the total dude-bro conversation taking place around the bowl. I was convinced that if I played the audio back for them, they'd never talk like that again.
Of course, I didn't do that. You think I carry around a stereo DAT recorder from the late '90s in my pocket? You think I have some kind of sophisticated phone technology?
But I was relieved that no one in our posse of assorted motley crew/Sweat-hogs/Rogues Gallery ever spoke like that.
