When I ordered from NHS FunFactory (a different company, mind you), I received this:

Now. My argument was, and still is, that NHS FunFactory is simply more generous with the promotional material.
Ghris's argument was, and still is, that I got hooked up because the box was being sent to Dischord.
Well, today I believe I have finally stumbled upon new fuel for this debate.
Erin ordered a board for me for my birthday, and she had it sent to Dischord.
Inside the box (along with the board, of course) was the following:
- Some crumby Socal stickers.
- Three sheets of griptape SCRAPS--none of which were long enough to cover the board even if combined.
I actually find the latter somewhat offensive, especially since the griptape was made by two separate brands and featured wildly different textures.My SoCal stickers were indeed bigger. Look left and check 'em out.
But I honestly don't think there was any special treatment considering the griptape came straight out of SoCal's trash.
Gentlemen, I would like to submit for evidence the "schwag" I received from a.... *searches coolly through a stack of paper*.... NHSFun Factory. One set of "SK8 Dice", one "OJII" reissue style reflective sticker similar in size to one of the defense's "SoCal Skateshop" stickers and.... and well that is it. The prosecution rests your honor.

Yo! Tiny stickers are in now, don'tcha know?
ReplyDeleteLet's look to the fashion world for an example: No one's wearing giant pinback buttons on their clothes anymore. This ain't no ancient political campaign. The favorite-band buttons you choose to emblazon across your jean-jacket have to be tiny. No one wants to look at a 5-inch diameter SLINT logo.
Well, that's how it is with stickers, too. Those stickers need to be tiny. I shouldn't be able to read Independent or OJII until the board is an inch from my nose.
i don't want to get into a big debate about this but i would be willing to bet that it has more to do with who is packing the box and what kind of junk they are trying to get out of their warehouse at the time of your order...seriously the "swag" is just junk that they probably can't sell...except for stickers...since everyone wants stickers...but i think they have tons of those...

And the SK8 dice ... Really?! SK8 dice?! That's like something poor Ned Flanders would sell at his Leftorium.

ReplyDeleteBulldog, the SK8 Dice are yours. Honestly, I think for SoCal we are even. NHS though? Man, that is some priority sticker swag. That big indy sticker is an 8 dollar sticker, minimum. Thirteen year old me would have killed for it. No clue where I would have stuck it, but that is beside the point. We need to conduct a real world experiment. You order your 149 indys yet? Let's both order a set from NHS and see what happens in the swag department. CHALLENGE!
ReplyDeleteAlready ordered the 149s from SoCal. I had a birthday gift certificate to burn through. Believe me when I say I wish I would've waited. I like the idea of an NHS Schwag-Off Showdown. Bob Barker would be so proud.
